As Canadians across the country prepare to ring in the New Year, lottery players in the WCLC region will be looking back on a solid year of major lottery wins.

In 2025, WCLC officials say lottery winners across the Prairies and the North claimed 67 prizes of $1 million and more. Combined, they say those prizes totaled more than $219.6 million!

Millionaires by province:

  • Alberta: 49 wins, totaling $192 million
  • Saskatchewan: 11 wins, totaling $19 million
  • Manitoba: 6 wins, totaling $7 million

Northern Canada was also represented by a $1 million Scratch & Win prize which went to a winner from Yellowknife, say WCLC officials.

Large city prize round-up:

  • Calgary: 14 prizes totaling $24 million
  • Edmonton: 7 prizes totaling $39.5 million
  • Lethbridge: 2 prizes totaling $3.5 million
  • Winnipeg: 4 prizes totaling $5 million
  • Regina: 2 prizes totaling $2 million
  • Saskatoon: 6 prizes totaling $10 million
  • Yellowknife: 1 prize totaling $1 million

The WCLC says lottery games in the Prairies and the North are designed to be a source of fun and recreation, serving as a fundraiser for priority programs and services throughout the region. The 67 million-dollar-and-up wins in the region this year are only a percentage of the total prizes awarded to players in 2025, say lottery officials.

Additionally, players in the Lotto Spot region claimed more than 7,300 prizes between $1,000 and $1 million this year, adding another $135 million to the tally. Beyond those major wins, millions of smaller prizes – ranging from free tickets to $2, $5, $10 and beyond – are won in Western Canada and the North every year, say WCLC officials, providing moments of excitement for lottery players throughout the region.

Prizes ($1K-$999,999) by province:

  • Alberta: More than 4,300 wins, totaling $89 million
  • Saskatchewan: More than 1,200 wins, totaling $11.8 million
  • Manitoba: More than 1,500 wins, totaling $31.7 million

WCLC officials further point out that a combined 157 prizes were paid this year in the North, totaling $485K in the Northwest Territories, $177K in Nunavut, and $1.2M in Yukon.
