Rebels’ skid reaches seven as Tigers roll to 7-4 victory

Dec 28, 2025 | 7:00 PM

The Medicine Hat Tigers scored five goals in the second period, leading to a 7-4 victory over the Red Deer Rebels on Sunday evening.

The loss marks the Rebels’ seventh straight setback since their last victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on December 3. Meantime, the Tigers have won 12 games in a row.

The Tigers opened the scoring nearly five minutes into the opening period off the stick of Liam Ruck on the power play.

However, the Rebels scored the next two goals to take their first and only lead of the matchup in Medicine Hat.

The first came from forward Landon MacSwain who tied the game at one after he knocked in the rebound, crashing the net with 9:06 left in the first period.

The next Rebels goal came from captain Talon Brigley with 16:27 left in the second period. Brigley, who entered the zone after gathering the puck, made a hard drive towards the net and fired it past the goaltender while knocked down.

Tigers’ Bryce Pickford followed that up with a power play marker to tie the game with 12:52 left in the middle period.

Gavin Kor and Carter Cunningham scored back-to-back goals for the Tigers to give them a 4-2 lead before Red Deer’s Matej Mikes scored his third of the season with 6:45 to go.

The Tigers then scored three straight goals to secure the victory, including two to round out the second period from Josh Van Mulligen and Ethan Neutens, and another in the third period from Yaroslav Bryzgalov.

The Rebels were able to stop the bleeding a bit with a late goal from Poul Andersen, who suited up in his first game for Red Deer. The Minnesota native was acquired by the Rebels in a trade with the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday.

Red Deer’s netminder, Peyton Shore, made 24 saves on 31 shots, and the Rebels struggled with special teams. The Tigers went two for two on the power play, and the Rebels were held to one goal on the man advantage on six opportunities.

Next up for the Rebels, they’ll host the Tigers for a rematch on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Centrium at 7 p.m. before heading to Edmonton on Thursday.
