Lacombe shares what community has proposed ahead of strategic planning sessions

Dec 17, 2025 | 9:45 PM

The City of Lacombe says it’s heard from community partners, volunteers, and staff loud and clear about what they think the priorities should be for city council.

Strategic planning sessions are planned for early 2026.

Throughout 2025, the city gathered feedback from agencies, boards and commissions, as well as the corporate leadership team, and former members of council.

What We Heard

Across all groups, participants shared pride in Lacombe’s strengths and were open about the pressures facing the community, the city shares.

Common themes included:

• The need for long-term planning and renewal of infrastructure such as recreation facilities, civic buildings, and utilities.

• Concerns about affordability and financial sustainability, including rising costs and limited tax flexibility.

• A focus on community wellbeing, with attention to housing, social supports, safety, accessibility, and gaps in health-related services.

• The important role of arts, culture, recreation, and community identity in supporting quality of life, tourism, and the local economy.

• The importance of clear communication, working together, and consistent decision-making to maintain public trust.

• An aging population, along with the need to attract and retain younger residents, as a key factor influencing future service needs.

These points, combined with the Lacombe 2025: Strategic Insights report, will be used to facilitate planning sessions next year. Those will set the council goals for 2026-2029.
