On Dec. 4, 2025, Sundre RCMP were alerted to an assault in which a firearm was allegedly produced.

Police say the victim was a delivery driver attempting to deliver appliances to a rural address. The delivery was made to the wrong location.

The driver parked his delivery truck on the side of the road to contact the owner of the appliances, who police allege is the suspect.

A short time later, the suspect arrived where the victim was parked and demanded the appliances be delivered to an alternate address. When the victim said he could not comply, the suspect allegedly opened the driver’s door and punched him two or three times.

Police say the suspect then returned to his vehicle, retrieved a long gun and pointed it at the victim, threatening to kill him if the appliances were not delivered. The victim fled the area in his vehicle and contacted police.

RCMP obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence, which was executed with assistance from the Southern Alberta Emergency Response Team. Police say the suspect was arrested without incident.

During the search, RCMP seized 16 firearms, one of which was loaded, along with a large quantity of ammunition.

William Fenech, 31, of Sundre, has been charged with 14 Criminal Code offences, including extortion with a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence and assault.

Following a judicial interim release hearing, Fenech was released from custody on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on Dec. 20, 2025.
