Registration now open for Red Deer Public Kindergarten

Dec 15, 2025 | 3:51 PM

Parents can now register their children for 2026-2027 school year kindergarten.

This year, families will be asked to indicate which program options they would consider for their child. This feedback will help determine which offerings are available at each school.

Depending on the school, options may include:

  • Traditional half-day (a.m. or p.m.)
  • Half-day with optional Kindercare (before/after school, PD days, holidays)
  • Full-day, every second day
  • Full-day, every second day with optional Kindercare
  • Full-day Academy programs with specialized learning opportunities, beyond curriculum objectives

“We want to ensure families have access to programs that truly meet their needs,” said Kim Kirkwood, Certified Director of Early Learning at Red Deer Public Schools.

“By gathering families’ preferences up front, we can develop programming that supports children’s learning and reflects the needs of our community.”

Kirkwood notes the division’s kindergarten academy is expanding to five more schools, including Don Campbell, Glendale, Mattie McCullough, Normandeau and Oriole Park.

“Each Academy program will have a specific focus area beyond curriculum objectives,” said Kirkwood.

“The cost of Academy programming is $400 a month and includes a Certified Teacher and Educational Assistant. Academy programs vary from science and technology-based to fine arts-based and inquiry-based.”

In addition to Kindergarten, families can now apply for Little Learners Pre-Kindergarten, Red Deer Public’s early intervention program designed to support young children who may benefit from targeted developmental support before starting school.
