RDSO presents Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” with original score at Gaetz Memorial United Church

Dec 11, 2025 | 12:05 PM

The Red Deer Symphony Orchestra (RDSO) is inviting Central Albertans to experience the magic and warmth of Charles Dickens’ beloved classic, “A Christmas Carol,” in a special holiday presentation on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025.

RDSP officials say this unique collaboration features a dramatic reading of the timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, illuminated by an original score for string quartet composed by the RDSO’s own Music Director, Claude Lapalme.

The performance will take place at the beautiful and intimate setting of Gaetz Memorial United Church.

“Bringing ‘A Christmas Carol’ to life in this way allows us to experience the story’s depth and emotion through a new lens,” says Music Director, Claude Lapalme, in a press release. “The string quartet acts as an extra voice, painting the atmosphere and heightening the drama of Scrooge’s tale. Gaetz United Church, with its wonderful acoustics and festive decor, is the perfect home for this storytelling.”

RDSO officials say this special event breathes new life into the familiar story of ghosts, redemption, and the true meaning of Christmas, offering audiences an enchanting start to their holiday celebrations.
