Sylvan Lake council to vote on exploring city status

The Town of Sylvan Lake could potentially explore the possibility of becoming a city.

At Tuesday’s regular council meeting, a notice of motion was brought forward by councillor Tim Mearns for council to direct administration to prepare a report outlining the process, requirements, and financial implications for the Town of Sylvan Lake to pursue city status. The notice of motion also asks administration to provide recommendations for the next steps.

However, it’s not a done deal yet.

The item will return to town council at a future council meeting, where they will vote on whether they want administration to compile a report or not.
