Red Deer rental rates among lowest in Canada

The latest National Rent Report from Rentals.ca indicates Red Deer currently has among the lowest rental rates in the country.

In December, Red Deer placed 55th among 60 Canadian cities included in the report, showing an average rent of $1,240 per month for a one-bedroom unit, down 2.7 per cent from the month before but up 0.2 per cent from the same month last year.

Two-bedroom units had an average rent of $1,446 per month, up 1.5 per cent from November, but down 0.4 per cent from December 2024.

Elsewhere, Airdrie had the highest average rental rates in the province last month, placing 35th on the list of 60 cities. The average rent for a one-bedroom unit in Airdrie in December was $1,418 per month, while a two-bedroom unit had an average rent of $1,777 per month.

Calgary placed 43rd on the list with an average rent of $1,539 per month for a one-bedroom unit and $1,860 per month for a two-bedroom.

Edmonton was 51st on the list with an average rent of $1,289 per month for a one-bedroom unit in December, while a two-bedroom rented for an average of $1,636 per month.

Lethbridge was 53rd on the list, with an average rent of $1,365 per month for a one-bedroom unit and $1,615 per month for a two-bedroom.

Fort McMurray was 57th on the list, with an average rent of $1,178 per month for a one-bedroom unit in December, and $1,384 per month for the average two-bedroom.

Medicine Hat was 58th on the list, with an average rent of $1,223 per month for a one-bedroom unit and $1,394 per month for a two-bedroom in December.

Lloydminster was 59th on the list, with an average rent of $1,045 per month for a one-bedroom unit in December, and $1,321 per month for a two-bedroom place.
