RDP Athletics recap: November 28-30

This past week, the Red Deer Polytechnic basketball teams dropped their games to the Olds College Broncos.

The RDP Queens hockey team defeated the NAIT Ooks twice, and the Kings hockey team split the weekend series with the SAIT Trojans.

Here is a summary of the recent results:

Basketball

Queens at Broncos | Friday, November 28

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens basketball team (3-7) was defeated 68-48 by the Broncos (3-7) in Olds. Kayle Lammle (Bachelor of Education) scored 13 points for the Queens.

Kings at Broncos | Friday, November 28

The RDP Kings (1-9) were dropped 86-74 by the Broncos (1-9) on the road.

William Tcherkachine (Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies) led the Kings with 24 points. Tong Akol, a second-year guard from Calgary, added 13.

Hockey

Queens at Ooks | Friday, November 28

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens hockey team blanked the NAIT Ooks 2-0 in Edmonton.

Addison Longmore and Jailyn Bablitz scored for the Polytechnic. Elizabeth Campbell earned the shutout in the Queens’ net, turning aside 23 shots.

Queens vs. Ooks | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, November 29

The second seed RDP Queens (11-4) earned a 1-0 decision over the third-place Ooks (8-8) at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

Arilyn Toews scored the Polytechnic’s lone goal. Tora Ward, an RDP Bachelor of Education student, made 30 saves.

Kings vs. Trojans | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Friday, November 28

The RDP Kings hockey team was downed 7-4 by the SAIT Trojans in Red Deer. Ryland McNinch, Nathan DeGraves, Tanner Sklaruk and Nolan Doell scored for RDP.

Kings at Trojans | Saturday, November 29

The first-place Kings (11-1) responded with a 5-2 victory over the second-seeded Trojans (10-2) on the road.

Kasey Hiemstra, Carter Cormier, Shayne Tibbles, Doell and Dawson Leroux scored for the Kings. Ethan Farrow (Bachelor of Arts in Psychology) made 31 saves in the Kings’ net.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens have completed conference play in 2025. They will resume regular-season action in January 2026.
