Molly Simpson makes history as first Canadian woman to win USA BMX Pro Series in 20 years

Red Deer’s Molly Simpson is officially the top pro in the United States.

Already having earned 5th place at the Olympics in 2024, the 22-year-old won 12 of 16 races on the 2025 USA BMX Pro Series, and capped it off with a pair of spectacular performances this past weekend at the final event in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Simpson’s season had been so good leading up to the final that she only needed to finish 5th or better to win the overall title.

But the existence of breathing room did not mean she wasn’t feeling the pressure.

“There was no room for error. I was able to focus on myself, stick to my process, and I won both days,” Simpson told rdnewsNOW on the phone from Denmark.

Simpson, who turns 23 in 10 days, claimed 2nd overall in the same “prestigious” series a year ago.

“It feels pretty good, especially because I’m not even American. Definitely, I’ve dreamed of having this title. My and my coach Adam Muse set this as a goal at the start of the year, and he was at the race, so it was a full circle moment to win.”

Simpson’s family was also able to make it there and see her hoist the trophy.

In fact, Simpson is the first Canadian woman to win this title since Airdrie’s Samantha Cools win it in 2005. Cools competed at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, finishing 7th.

There were four Olympians in Tulsa, Simpson included.

Now it’s time to pump the brakes, just for a little bit, and enjoy the holidays, says Simpson, who also finished third in World Cup rankings for 2025, and won her first World Cup race in June.

Early 2026 will bring off-season training, then some camps in Australia, and races begin in March, with the US Series, the World Cup, and the World Championship on the slate.

Later in the year, qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will have begun, and that will become Simpson’s prime focus, as accruing points is crucial.
