Red Deer Arts Council and Red Deer Public Library are pleased to present, “The Canadian Landscape Abstract Paintings” artworks by John Bladek running from Dec. 2 until Feb. 8, 2026, in the Kiwanis Gallery.
This exhibition includes paintings of Canadian landscapes that John paints from where he lives and travels, from Nova Scotia to the Rocky Mountains and Alberta prairie scenes, as well as from Newfoundland to the Yukon and Northwest Territories. John finds inspiration from his appreciation of the natural environment. Many of his paintings are of “iconic” Canadian scenes (Peggy’s Cove, Moraine Lake, etc.) and his hope is that people who view them will appreciate the fact that his interpretation is different and imaginative.

Artist: Bailey Horton Dates: Dec. 5 until March 15 #FirstFridaysRedDeer
Reception: Dec. 5, 2025, 5-8 p.m.
Description: Bailey Horton is a multidisciplinary artist engaged in community advocacy. Their medium is often informed by their research, but primarily draws; with print, sculptural, and textile elements. Her latest project is Unhampered, which investigates food security in the Red Deer community.
The body of work explores imagery from their personal pantry, 2022 statistics from the Red Deer Food Bank, and found grocery material. Through paper bags, she considers the relationship between grocery shopping, in-store donations, and what composes a meal.
Unhampered is a collaborative art workshop and body of work developed to support the Red Deer Food Bank. Unhampered was developed in three interconnected stages: A visually researched body of work; a community carving workshop to foster discussion; and a live printing event. Through this experience, she explored how fine arts can foster communication and support for local issues.

Fervent Patience – A Treatise on Longing
This exhibition of 2D textile works represents my lifelong and continued relationship with needle and thread, exploring line, colour and texture, and the interplay of naturally occurring vs. manufactured materials and artifacts.
Lily Corinne Anderton
A lifelong learner and maker, I have studied art both formally and informally at post-secondary institutions, through various guilds and throughout extensive travels. The humble and the tactile are my métier: fabric, thread, paper, canvas, pigment. My ongoing fascination is with the infinity of colour afforded by limited palettes, and the work references this prairie girl’s ongoing astonishment at western Canada’s expansive spaces and impossibly long straight horizon lines.

“Over the past fifteen years, photography has become one of my greatest passions. I’ve had the honor of receiving numerous awards in various categories and was named Photographer of the Year for four consecutive years. My work spans multiple genres, including portraiture, macro, landscape, wildlife, water drops, focus stacking, focus bracketing, HDR (High Dynamic Range), time-lapse, and, for the past eight years, astrophotography. For the past eight years, I have focused on astrophotography—capturing the beauty of nebulas, galaxies, and globular clusters. Whenever the weather allows, I take every opportunity to head out under the night sky—after all, the stars truly have to align. I’ve been inspired by space since childhood, fascinated by the mystery and wonder of the universe, and I find great serenity in capturing even a small glimpse of its endless beauty. Through both music and photography, I continue to find joy, creativity, and inspiration in capturing the beauty and rhythm of life.” —Daniel Pelissier
