Red Deer Public budget sees surplus
The Board of Trustees for Red Deer Public Schools has approved its audited financial statements for the 2024-2025 school year, confirming a surplus and continued strong financial management in the face of rising costs and modest enrollment growth.
For the year ending Aug. 31, 2025, the Division recorded a surplus of $162,375, an improvement from the originally budgeted deficit of $700,000. According to Division officials, total revenues reached $138.3 million, reflecting increases in provincial funding and support tied to student enrollment. Expenses totalled $138.1 million.
“This year’s results show disciplined financial stewardship across our Division,” said Nicole Buchanan, Board Chair, in a press release. “With increasing pressures such as higher utility costs and staffing needs, achieving a balanced budget is a significant accomplishment. These audited statements reflect our commitment to directing resources where they matter most, which is supporting students and classrooms.”
In addition to achieving a budget surplus, Red Deer Public’s operating reserves total $5.34 million.
