Town of Ponoka invites citizen input on new Ponoka Adaptation and Sustainability Action Plan

Nov 26, 2025 | 12:52 PM

Ponoka residents are invited to share their input and ideas as the town prepares to create a new Adaptation and Sustainability Action Plan.

Officials say the Ponoka Adaptation and Sustainability Action Plan will help the town plan for the impacts of changing weather patterns on the community, infrastructure and local economy. They further point out it’s about planning for the future and identifying actions that enable the community to be more resilient, vibrant and livable for generations to come.

Town officials say a well-structured plan can also strengthen the their ability to pursue and secure diversified funding opportunities that will help build the town’s vision for the future.

Ponoka residents can learn more about the Ponoka Adaptation and Sustainability Action Plan and offer their input and ideas by filling out an online survey on the Town of Ponoka’s online engagement website at LetsTalkPonoka.ca.

The survey will be open until Friday, Dec. 12 at midnight. Paper copies of the survey are also available at the Ponoka Aquaplex (5315 46 Avenue), Ponoka Arena Complex (4410 54 Street) and the Town Office on the second floor of the Ponoka Civic Centre (200, 5604 50 Street).

In-Person Public Engagement Events

Join town staff on Friday, Nov. 28 for in-person, public engagement events where citizens will have the opportunity to learn more about the new Ponoka Adaptation and Sustainability Action Plan, fill out the survey, ask questions and chat with members of the project team.

The events will be held at:

• The Ponoka Arena Complex from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. where attendees and/or their children can enjoy a free public skate; and

• The Ponoka Aquaplex from 1 to 3 p.m. where attendees and/or their children can enjoy a free public swim.

By gathering input from citizens, the Town can:

• Identify where weather events and their impacts are being felt;

• Understand what facilities and services community members care most about protecting; and

• Identify and prioritize practical steps that will help protect our community.

Once public engagement is completed, officials say the Ponoka Adaptation and Sustainability Action Plan will be drafted based on the input received from citizens and will be presented to Ponoka Town Council for review and consideration.
