Light Up Blackfalds returns on Friday

The Town of Blackfalds announced the annual Light Up Blackfalds event will return on Friday.

The town’s parks department transformed Tayles Spray Park into a festive holiday display with musical light displays that will shine every night during the holiday season.

On Nov. 21, they’ll hold the kick-off event, which will feature a dance show by Dancer’s Edge at 5 p.m., followed by speeches from dignitaries and the countdown at 5:30 p.m.

“This year, the park has roughly 1,414 string lights, with a total of 106,180 bulbs and 9 large displays, which takes our team of four a total of six weeks to set up and another six weeks to decorate and complete. There are also a few new features that we are excited for everyone to see,” said Parks Foreman Shaun Knowles in a media release.

The free event will also have free hot chocolate donated by Tim Hortons and fire pits to keep everyone warm.

Donations will also be accepted by town staff on behalf of the Blackfalds Food Bank and Beyond Food Community Hub, and Blackfalds FCSS’ Christmas Bureau Program.

“With the holiday season fast approaching, Light Up Blackfalds! is the perfect way to bring our community together to celebrate the joy of the season,” said Mayor Laura Svab. “Whether it is a family tradition or your first time joining us, we invite everyone to share in the magic and excitement of this special event.”
