Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics has announced Jorgia Hicks (Queens Basketball) and Nolan Doell (Kings Hockey) as the RDP Athletes of the Week.

Jorgia Hicks – Queens Basketball Program – Open Studies (2 nd) Hometown – Red Deer, Alberta

Jorgia Hicks was a key contributor to the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team this past weekend. In Friday’s 63-42 road win over the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves, the second-year guard played a well rounded game in all zones. Red Deer’s Hicks contributed nine steals, eight assists, eight rebounds and four points while playing 36 minutes, earning the RDP Queens Player of the Game.

Despite the Queens dropping Saturday’s game 82-52 to The King’s University Eagles, Hicks, once again, made valuable contributions. Hicks, an Open Studies student, recorded 13 points, five assists and three steals while going nine-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Next, Hicks and the Queens will tip-off against the St. Mary’s University Lightning on Friday, November 21.

Nolan Doell – Kings Hockey Program – Bachelor of Education (4 th) Hometown – Martensville, Saskatchewan

Nolan Doell had another tremendous weekend on the ice for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team. The fourth-year forward contributed a total of five points over two games as the Kings picked up a pair of wins and retained their first-place standing (10-0).

In Friday’s 4-1 victory over the Portage College Voyageurs, Doell, a Bachelor of Education student, scored the Kings’ second goal, which turned out to be the game-winning-goal. He added the team’s fourth marker, providing insurance.

Doell, who is from Martensville, Saskatchewan, scored the Kings’ second and third goals in Saturday’s 7-6 decision over the Voyageurs, impressively recording his 50th career goal in the ACAC. He also assisted on the Kings’ sixth goal, scored by teammate Nic Andrusiak.

For his outstanding performance, Doell was named the North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game.

Doell and the RDP Kings will face-off against the SAIT Trojans on Friday, November 28.
