Maskwacis RCMP charge two from Samson Cree Nation after fleeing from police

Maskwacis RCMP have charged two people after they fled from police during a traffic stop on Tuesday.

On Nov. 4, Maskwacis responded to a firearms complaint after shots were allegedly fired at a residence.

Police then located the vehicle involved and initiated a traffic stop but the vehicle fled the stop at a high rate of speed.

RCMP pursued the vehicle into Wetaskiwin County and with help from other RCMP detachments, a tire deflation device was used on the fleeing vehicle successfully.

There were six occupants in the vehicle who were all arrested and taken to the Maskwacis RCMP detachment.

However, only two were charged, and the other four were released.

As a result, a 17-year-old from Samson Cree Nation was charged with discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle

In addition, 41-year-old Junelle Desjarlais from Samson Cree Nation was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, pursuit involving flight from a peace officer, discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

The 17-year-old youth was remanded into custody until their court appearance on Nov. 5, in Wetaskiwin and Junelle Desjarlais was remanded into custody until their court appearance on Nov. 6 in Wetaskiwin.
