Rebels pick up a point in shootout loss to Hitmen

Oct 29, 2025 | 9:09 PM

The Red Deer Rebels gave it their all but fell just short.

Down by two goals in the third period, the Rebels scored twice, including one with 34.9 seconds remaining, to send it to overtime.

Despite that, Red Deer fell 4-3 to the Hitmen in Calgary at the Scotiabank Saddledome in the shootout after nobody scored in three-on-three overtime.

Kale Dach, Andrei Molgachev, and Landon Amrhein scored in the shootout for the Hitmen; meanwhile, Jaxon Fuder was the lone goal scorer for the Rebels.

On the bright side, the Rebels pick up a point in the loss, and netminder Matthew Kondro was on top of his game with 29 saves on 32 shots.

The Hitmen scored the lone goal of the opening period when rookie forward Luc Trevors fired in the rebound for his first Western Hockey League goal.

In the second period, they added another tally to lead 2-0 thanks to a goal from defenceman Ben MacBeath. With 11:37 left in the frame, he notched his third of the season, finishing a sweet passing play from Ethan Moore.

The Rebels responded with a goal just over eight minutes into the third period. Czechia forward Samuel Drancak knocked in the rebound while skating by the front of the net following a Ty Coupland shot.

Just three minutes later, the Hitmen restored their two-goal lead with an unassisted goal from Wyatt Pisarczyk.

However, the Rebels didn’t go away quietly.

With 8:30 left in the game, forward Jaxon Fuder found the back of the net off a pass from Ty Coupland behind the net.

In the final 34.9 seconds, Red Deer native Keith McInnis found the equalizer on his backhand while on a breakaway opportunity.

Next up, the Rebels will welcome the Swift Current Broncos to the Centrium on Saturday at 6 p.m.
