Red Deer man arrested in stolen vehicle with loaded shotgun sentenced to two-and-a-half years
A Red Deer man charged after local Mounties spotted a man driving a stolen truck last year has been sentenced to nearly two-and-a-half years in jail.
Chad Daniel Wickett, 33, was sentenced in Red Deer Court of Justice on Oct. 23, 2025, after being convicted on counts of possess firearm weapon in vehicle, possess prohibited firearm, possess property over $5,000, and fail to comply with release order conditions. He was also given a firearm prohibition. Thirteen other charges against Wickett were withdrawn.
Wickett’s global sentence was for 912 days but he was given credit of 513 days of pre-trial custody, leaving him with 399 days or just over 13 months still to serve.
It was about 5:50 p.m. on Aug. 15, 2024, when RCMP observed a stolen truck driving within the Bower area, and with assistance from Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team, arrested the driver. Mounties said a loaded shotgun and other weapons were located within the vehicle.
