Recount to take place for Red Deer Catholic trustee spot won by one vote

Oct 24, 2025 | 4:57 PM

A recount will take place for one trustee position with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools.

The recount is for one of five seats in the Red Deer ward, and was made by Murray Hollman, whom was shown to have lost out on the final seat by just one vote.

According to official Red Deer election numbers, Hollman received 1,036 votes, while Emily Huber received 1,037.

According to the City of Red Deer, the recount will take place as per the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA), which stipulates an application must be made within 72 hours of the announcement of the official results.

About recounts:

  • A Recount on Request must be submitted within 72 hours of official results being posted or announced (in our case, by October 28, 2025, at 11 p.m.).
  • For single-contest races, only the candidate who finished second may request a recount.
  • For multi-contest races, the request must come from the candidate next in line to be elected, and the difference between their total and the next higher total must be within 0.5% of all valid ballots cast.
  • Recounts on Request must be completed by noon on the fifth day after results were posted (in our case, Monday, October 27, 12 p.m.).

Results of the recount are expected on or before noon on Sunday, October 25, 2025. Once the recount is complete, the confirmed results will be shared publicly and posted to the Elections Red Deer website.

Hollman most recently served as trustee on and chair of the Red Deer Catholic board prior to the Oct. 20 election.
