Charges laid in fatal crash north of Red Deer

Red Deer RCMP have now laid charges in connection with a motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of 48-year-old Michael (Aaron) Caywood on Aug. 30, 2025.
With the assistance of the Alberta RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, Red Deer RCMP determined an SUV was travelling northbound on Highway 2A north of Red Deer, when it crossed the centre line, colliding with a southbound motorcycle.
As a result of the investigation, on Oct. 23, 2025, RCMP arrested and charged an 18-year-old female Red Deer resident with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and operate motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 mg of alcohol in 100 mL of blood causing death.
Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Mounties say the charged female was released to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Oct. 31, 2025.
