Free breast health class set for this Sunday

Oct 22, 2025 | 4:13 PM

Local business owner Kimberly Hamilton will host a breast health class this weekend during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Hamilton, a survivor of breast cancer, will host the class on Sunday, October 26, at 1 p.m. at Kimtimates, located at 5212 48 Street, Suite 2, A101.

The class, which was developed by the Know Your Lemons Foundation, is meant to raise awareness and empower others.

The breast health education class will teach those in attendance how to recognize the 12 symptoms of breast cancer, understand screening options and risk factors, and feel confident talking to their doctors.

Hamilton was diagnosed with breast cancer at 39 years old while living in Vancouver.

“My diagnosis was shocking, but not surprising. One in seven women in Alberta will face this disease in their lifetime, and unfortunately, rates are increasing in women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s,” she explained. “I first felt some discomfort and pain near my underarm. Over time, the tissue began to thicken. It took months of advocating for imaging before my cancer was diagnosed, and by then it had spread to my lymph nodes. Knowing what to look for and when to push for answers can save your life.”

She explained that every 14 seconds, somewhere in the world, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer and in Alberta, it’s one in seven women.

As seating is limited, she asks anyone hoping to attend to register for the free event on Eventbrite.com.
