Oct 21, 2025 | 10:17 PM

The Red Deer Rebels went goal for goal with the Moose Jaw Warriors on Tuesday night, but were edged 5-4 in the shootout at the Temple Gardens Centre.

Riley Thorpe put the Warriors out in front in the fourth round of the shootout, and Rebels forward Matthew Gard was unable to score to extend it.

The loss marks the Rebels’ third straight loss. As a result, they now post a 2-8-0-1 record in the central division standings.

Red Deer jumped out in front first early in the second period. At the 2:21 mark, forward Ty Coupland scored on the breakaway to put the Rebels up by one.

The Warriors found the equalizer with exactly a minute left in the second period. Forward Lyndon Lakovic forced the Rebels to turn over the puck, which sprung him on the breakaway where he beat Rebels goalie Peyton Shore on a backhand move.

Lankovic scored again just over a minute into the third period on the power play to retake the lead, but 39 seconds later, the Rebels tied the game again, 2-2. Forward Noah Milford batted the puck out of the air and into the net.

Just a few minutes later, the Warriors led 3-2 after scoring their second power-play tally of the evening off the stick of Ethan Semeniuk.

The back-and-forth game continued when Rebels defenceman Keith McInnis fired a shot just in front of the blue line that beat the goalie nearly seven minutes into the final frame.

Landon McFadden put the Warriors ahead 4-3 with just over 10 minutes left in the game; however, the Rebels refused to go away and tied the game for a third time. Veteran forward Arjun Bawa knocked in the rebound in front of the net with under five minutes to go.

In the shootout, both shooters, Ty Coupland and Landen McFadden, were successful, and after both missed in the second round, Beckett Hamilton scored for Red Deer and Pavel McKenzie for Moose Jaw.

It all came down ot the fourth round, but the Rebels were unable to keep the shootout alive.

Both goaltenders were fantastic between the pipes, including a 21-save performance from Rebels netminder Peyton Shore. Warriors goalie Matthew Hutchison made 38 saves in the victory.

Next up, the Rebels will look to rebound on Wednesday in Swift Current against the Broncos. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. at the InnovationPlex.
