Ballot counting continues in Red Deer

Oct 21, 2025 | 1:27 PM

Officials with the City of Red Deer say thousands of residents exercised their right to vote for mayor, city councillors and school board trustees as part of Monday’s municipal and school board elections.

“Thank you to every voter who took the time to cast a ballot and have your voice heard,” said Returning Officer, Jessica Robinson, in a press release. “We know line ups were long, and we had many people waiting until well into the evening to cast their ballot. We extend our sincere appreciation to everybody in the community who participated in this election including, but not limited to, the many election workers who have and will continue to work this election until every ballot is counted.”

With polls now closed, the city says ballot processing began Monday evening. However, because Alberta legislation requires all ballots to be counted by hand, the counting process will take more time to complete than in previous elections. The city says counting shifts will continue throughout the week until all ballots are verified and results are confirmed.

“We do not yet know when results will be available, but we will ensure the community is updated as soon as possible once the ballots are counted,” said Robinson.
