Sight Night returns to Red Deer Oct. 18

Oct 17, 2025 | 9:56 AM

Presented by the Alberta Sports and Recreation Association for the Blind (ASRAB), Sight Night returns to Red Deer this Saturday, Oct. 18.

The event begins at 6 p.m. at Bower Ponds.

“Sight Night is not just a run; it’s a celebration of inclusivity, where both individuals with visual impairment and sighted individuals equally partake in an unforgettable experience. As participants navigate the pathways, the event embodies the spirit of camaraderie, breaking down barriers and fostering understanding,” officials with ASRAB say.

“This event has been held for over 10 years in Calgary and Edmonton, receiving ongoing support from the communities we run the event in, and is entering its sixth year in Red Deer. We are expecting 75-plus runners to participate in the fun run and walk this year.”

The ambassador for this year’s Sight Night event in Red Deer is Merrick Smith, a 17-year-old goalball player.

Smith has represented Alberta’s junior and senior provincial teams across Canada, and is set to represent Canada’s junior men’s team at the Pan American Games in Chile.

To participate, you can register at 5 p.m. on race day at Bower Ponds. Online registration is closed.

Calgary’s Sight Night event is being held Nov. 8.
