three-month investigation

Alleged fentanyl lab in north Red Deer dismantled by RCMP

Oct 17, 2025 | 10:58 AM

Charges have been laid against two people after RCMP dismantled an alleged drug manufacturing operation in north Red Deer.

In late July, Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section received details about suspicious activities at a commercial business, which led to a police search of the property on July 25.

The search was done with assistance from the Alberta RCMP Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response Team (CLEAR) and Red Deer Emergency Services.

Police share the search led to the discovery and seizure of significant quantities of pre-cursor chemicals, substances, laboratory equipment, and other materials used in the manufacturing of illicit fentanyl. RCMP also seized 1735 grams of finished fentanyl product.

On Oct. 8, following nearly three months of investigation, RCMP searched a home in Red Deer’s Normandeau area, and with assistance from several units, including General Duty, Downtown Patrol, the Crime Reduction Team, and Police Dog Services, they seized electronic devices, laptops, forged documents, and equipment used for the creation of forged documents.

“Public safety is always the RCMP’s main priority,” says Cst. Andrew Devine with the Red Deer RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS). “The dismantling of this fentanyl site disrupts the flow of these dangerous substances into our communities and makes our neighbourhoods safer.”

A 33 year-old male resident of Red Deer, whose name is not yet being disclosed for investigational purposes, has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of items for the manufacturing of fentanyl
  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possess forged documents
  • Possess instruments for the creation of forged documents

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, the accused was remanded into custody to appear in court on Oct. 16, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.

A warrant for the arrest of a second Red Deer male has been issued, and that person is charged with the following:

  • Possession of items for the manufacturing of fentanyl
  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
