Jayme Hendrick named chief of Innisfail Fire Department

The Town of Innisfail announced longtime local firefighter Jayme Hendrick has been named chief of the fire department.

He has nearly three decades of experience working in public service, which began in 1998 as a corrections officer at the Bowden Institution.

“The title of fire chief was previously included in the role of protective services manager,” explained Innisfail’s Director of Protective Services, Gary Leith. “It had been this way since October of 2016, so with this change, we now have an individual whose only responsibility is being the leader of the fire department.”

Hendrick also volunteered with the RCMP as an auxiliary constable and was a part of the team that responded to help during the aftermath of the Pine Lake tornado. That experience inspired him to work in emergency services.

He went on to join Innisfail Fire & Rescue services in May 2002, where he served as captain for the last 22 years. He also served as an acting captain with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, a role he has held since 2006.

Now in his hometown, he’s looking forward to the new role.

“I am committed to continuing my work in the community where I was born and raised,” Hendrick said. “I look forward to supporting the ongoing development of the Innisfail Fire & Rescue Department, building on the strong foundation established by those who’ve served before me.”
