RDP Athletics recap: Oct. 3-5

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Hockey team split its opening games of the season. Both RDP Soccer teams picked up a win. The Kings and Queens Cross Country Running squads earned top spot in Camrose.

Hockey

Queens at Lakeland College Rustlers | Friday, October 3

The RDP Queens Hockey team dropped a close 2-1 decision to the Lakeland College Rustlers (1-1). Mia McGregor, a second-year forward from Waskada, Manitoba, scored the Polytechnic’s lone goal. Tora Ward (Bachelor of Education) made 25 saves in the Queens’ net.

Queens | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, October 4

The Queens Hockey team (1-1) defeated the Medicine Hat College Rattlers (0-1) 4-3 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. Jordyn Veitch, Arilyn Toews, Aubrey Sanderson and Kaedence Mollin scored for the Queens. Saskatoon’s Ward turned aside 13 shots.

Soccer

Queens | RDP Main Field | Saturday, October 4

The RDP Queens were edged 2-1 by the third-place Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (5-2-1). Sein Furuyama (Visual Arts Diploma) scored for RDP. Netminder Jessie Stewart made four saves in the Queens’ net.

Queens | RDP Main Field | Sunday, October 5

The second place Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team (7-2-0) blanked the fourth seed Medicine Hat College Rattlers (4-4-0) by a 5-0 margin. Red Deer’s Olivia Lundell scored three times for the Polytechnic. Furuyama added a pair of goals. Queens goalkeepers Stewart and Jana Leskewich combined to earn the shutout.

Kings | RDP Main Field | Saturday, October 4

The Kings Soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory over the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (2-3-2) at home. Captain Ajdin Sarcevic had two goals for the Kings. RDP Kings goalkeeper Emmet Kenwell (Bachelor of Business Administration) made five saves.

The fifth-place Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer team (1-4-3) was downed 4-0 by the undefeated Medicine Hat College Rattlers (7-0-0) at the RDP Main Field.

Cross Country Running

Kings and Queens at the U of A Augustana | Running Room Grand Prix #4 | Saturday, October 4

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Cross Country Running teams captured first place. Julianna Chipiuk (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) led the Queens and placed second overall (24:25) among ACAC female runners over 6 km. Concordia’s Ashlee Walker (24:19) led the group. NAIT’s Brynn Hebert (24:31) wrapped up third.

RDP’s Japhet Kipkosgei (26:46) ranked second among ACAC male runners over 8 km. He followed Nathan Woyessa (25:51) of SAIT. Reggie Williams (28:23), a member of the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings, sealed third.

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers Women’s team finished second. The NAIT Ooks wrapped up third.

The Lethbridge Polytechnic Men’s team was second and the Concordia University Thunder solidified third.
