Second consecutive loss

Rebels fall to Raiders in physical affair in Prince Albert

Oct 4, 2025 | 9:53 PM

The Red Deer Rebels’ early-season struggles continued on Saturday night in a 4-1 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders.

In front of 2,834 fans at the Art Hauser Centre, the Raiders took an early lead and never gave it up to hand Red Deer their fourth loss of the 2025-26 campaign. Both teams also dished out plenty of punishment in the physical matchup.

Despite an early goal in the second period, the Rebels struggled to produce any offence, especially on the man advantage.

The Raiders went one for five on the power play, but the Rebels were held scoreless on 13 power plays.

As a result, the Rebels drop to 1-4 on the season so far. The loss comes a day after Red Deer fell in Saskatoon to the Blades.

The Raiders scored two goals in the first, beginning with a tally from forward Ty Meunier, who finished off a nice passing play assisted by Jonah Sivertson nearly four minutes into the game.

Sivertson then scored a goal of his own approximately 10 minutes later to lead 2-0 heading into the intermission.

The Rebels got on the board just 31 seconds into the second period. Forward Matthew Gard fired a shot on goal from the left circle that beat the goalie through traffic.

Later in the period, the Raiders blew the game wide open. With just under two and a half minutes left in the middle frame, Ben Harvey scored his second of the season, followed by another goal 1:15 later off the stick of Brayden Dube.

Both teams were held scoreless in the third period despite chances on both ends of the ice, including a few on the power play.

The Rebels, though, were unable to launch the comeback. Rebels goaltender Chase Wutzke finished with 24 saves on 28 shots, and Dimitri Fortin of Prince Albert stopped 18 of 19 shots.

Next up, they’ll welcome the Lethbridge Hurricanes to the Centrium on Tuesday, September 7, and the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. on both nights.
