Nearly $54,000

Penhold Fire Department receives grant to purchase bunker gear

The Penhold Fire Department has been awarded a grant of nearly $54,000 to purchase 15 sets of bunker gear.

The grant, which is provided by Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada, is part of more than $5 million awarded to public safety organizations across Canada. The $53,991 is also one of 22 grants awarded by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation during the most recent grant cycle.

The Town of Penhold explained that the foundation recognized the Penhold Fire Department’s need for the new bunker gear, which will allow the fire department to maintain operational readiness and meet decontamination requirements. This will ultimately improve their lifesaving capabilities when called into action.

“We are grateful to the Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs® in Red Deer for providing us with this invaluable funding,” said Fire Chief Sean Pendergast in a media release. “The added benefit of having the very best equipment on hand means everything in an emergency when every second counts.”
