Finalists announced for Ag Innovations competition at Agri-Trade Equipment Expo

Sep 29, 2025 | 5:15 PM

The Agri-Trade Equipment Expo has announced five finalists for the Ag Innovations competition, which is set for Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Centrium.

The competition, which is at 3 p.m., will have an enhanced stage set up to showcase cutting-edge agricultural technologies.

Finalists will compete for $25,000 in prizes including $20,000 for the winner and $5,000 for the Peoples Choice Award.

“Producers are always looking for tools that save time, cut costs, and make farming more sustainable,” said Craig Shaw, Ag Innovations Committee Chair. “The Ag Innovations Competition puts those solutions front and centre. This year’s finalists are tackling real challenges on the farm, and we’re excited to give producers a firsthand look at technologies that could make a real difference in their operations.”

The finalists are:

  • Agtechnic – Sense Spray SenseSpray is a cutting-edge green-on-brown spot spraying system that integrates seamlessly with existing sprayer equipment. It helps farmers reduce chemical use during pre-seed, post-harvest, and desiccation applications, delivering both cost savings and environmental benefits.
  • ATP Nutrition Ltd.- Leaf Tissue Analysis – NutriScan
NutriScan Leaf Tissue Analysis is the first real-time analytical tool that provides the grower with a complete view of the crop’s nutritional status. Combined with NutriScan soil testing capabilities, it allows you to make data informed decisions to manage plant health throughout the growing season. NutriScan is the only technology in the market that allows you to perform both soil and leaf tissue nutrient analysis. This technology enables you to build a strong fertility plan based on the soil test and allow for proactive management of plant health by diagnosing nutritional issues before they become visually apparent.
  • Frontlink Inc. – Farm Droid FD20
The Farm Droid FD20 is a revolutionary solar-powered field robot designed to transform modern agriculture. Utilizing high-precision RTK GPS, it autonomously sows and weeds over 50 crop types, including sugar beets and onions, with pinpoint accuracy down to 8mm. Its eco-friendly design, powered entirely by four solar panels, delivers up to 24 hours of CO₂-neutral operation daily, covering up to 6.5 hectares. The FD20’s innovative seed memory and optional micro-spraying system reduce labor costs and chemical use by up to 94%, making it a sustainable, cost-effective solution for farmers.
  • Wandering Shepherd – Wireless Ruman Bolus
Wandering Shepherd is a smart livestock monitoring system that uses an ingestible bolus and connected IoT technology to track the health, location, and well-being of cattle anywhere in the world. Designed for ranchers and producers, it provides real-time insights to improve herd management, reduce losses, and increase efficiency.
  • Threshhold UAV – SwarmBox
Threshold UAV is redefining the future of agricultural drone technology by making swarm autonomy accessible to everyday users. Instead of relying on costly enterprise hardware or unreliable satellite imagery, our software, Swarm Box, harnesses off-the-shelf drones through a simple, user-friendly app. With a single operator, entire sections of farmland can be mapped in under 25 minutes — delivering near real-time results that are faster, cheaper, and more reliable than traditional methods. Moreover, the software has endless alternative uses which come in handy in any scenario for all land owners. By putting swarm control into farmers’ hands, Threshold UAV empowers decision-makers to act on accurate data when it matters most — transforming how land is mapped, monitored, and managed.

The Ag Innovations Competition has become a premier event at Agri-Trade. The winners will be announced live at the conclusion of the competition on Nov. 6.

The Agri-Trade Equipment Expo is set to take place at Westerner Park from Nov. 5-7, 2025.
