Fire Restriction in effect for Lacombe County

Effective immediately, a Fire Restriction is in effect for all of Lacombe County due to exceptionally dry, windy conditions and a lack of foreseeable precipitation.

County officials say this Fire Restriction may be upgraded to a Fire Ban at any time and will remain in effect until conditions improve.

At this time, Lacombe County has cancelled current fire permits and suspended any fire permit requests. All existing fires to which the restriction applies must be extinguished immediately.

*Recreation fires include those in campgrounds, private lands, and backyards.

Fires must be contained within a metal, brick, or rock fire ring and comply with Lacombe County’s Fire Bylaw.

• Minimum 3.3 metres (10 feet) clearance from buildings, property lines and combustible materials is maintained;

• Only wood, charcoal, or briquettes, manufactured fire logs, fireplace pellets, propane or natural gas is used;

• Placement on a rock, gravel, sand, or other non-combustible surface extending at least one metre around the fire;

• A responsible person must attend the fire at all times and ensure it is extinguished before leaving;

• Adequate water must be available on site to fully extinguish the fire. Safety Reminders:

• Off-Highway Vehicles can start wildfires. Frequently check to ensure hotspots are free of debris and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.

• Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it, and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.

• Safely dispose of cigarette butts. Disposing of cigarette butts, as they can easily light dried brush and grass.

• Check previously completed burns to ensure they are fully extinguished, as these can smoulder beneath the surface and reignite if conditions deteriorate.
