Maskwacis RCMP arrest resident for allegedly trafficking firearms

Sep 25, 2025 | 2:55 PM

Maskwacis RCMP have arrested a man who was allegedly involved in acquiring and distributing firearms from crime scenes in Maskwacis and Wetaskiwin.

Police say they identified several firearms that were illegally purchased as part of the ongoing investigation.

As a result, Mounties have charged 38-year-old Eaglechild Smallboy, a resident of Maskwacis, with four counts of firearms trafficking and four counts of transfer without authority.

“This is the second Maskwacis resident charged in the last 30 days with bringing these crime guns into the community,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff. “As we reduce the influx of illegal firearms into the community, we believe it will have a prolonged effect on reducing gun related crime. “

The accused was taken before a Justice of the Peace and was released. Smallboy’s next court date is set for Oct. 21, 2025 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.

This comes after police charged 24-year-old Colby Ray Buffalo with firearms trafficking and transfer without authority in August following an investigation that began in February.
