Town of Sylvan Lake election forum set for Oct. 9

Sep 24, 2025 | 4:42 PM

The Town of Sylvan Lake has organized a candidate forum prior to the upcoming municipal election next month.

The forum is set for Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Nexsource Centre and the public is invited to attend.

There are two candidates for mayor, including incumbent Megan Hanson and Dorian Larsen.

Meanwhile, there are 20 candidates running for town council including Holly Bilodeau, Ruby Cole-Ellis, Wade Collinge, Kjeryn Dakin, Nichole Drevenak, Joe Iwanicki, Teej Johannesson, Dayle Kichula-Rowan, Baret B. McAuley, Shannon McDonnell, Tim Mearns, Ian Oostindie, Graham Parsons, Jas Payne, Pat Sawyer, Erin Smith, Onsy Tawadrous, Juanna Thompson, Alfred Unger, and Kelsey Wilson. Only six will be elected for town council.

It’s unclear how many of the candidates will be at the event but the town says in years past, most of, if not all, have appeared in the forum.

Those who don’t have transportation to the forum can register online to be picked up by the Care-a-Van at your preferred address. They’ll transport you to the Nexsource Centre and back home.

Pickup is from 5 to 5:45 p.m. and the town says it’s important to register each passenger who will be needing a ride, including children.

However, those who can’t attend in person will be able to watch live on the town’s YouTube channel. It will also be available to be viewed after the event has wrapped up.

Those hoping to ask a question at the forum can submit them here. Election day is set for Oct. 20.
