Nominations for Oct. 20 municipal elections now closed

Nominations are now closed across the province for municipal and school board elections coming up on Oct. 20.

In accordance with the Local Authorities Election Act, all nominated candidates now have a 24-hour window to withdraw their candidacy, should they choose to do so, per Red Deer County.

For the city of Red Deer, there are five candidates for mayor: Lawrence Lee, Gareth Scott, Victor Doerksen, John Gallagher and Cindy Jefferies.

There are 24 candidates for city council, 14 for Red Deer Public Schools, and 19 for Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools.

At Red Deer County, there are three names up for mayor: Lonny Kennett, Christine Moore and Brent Ramsay.

Council-wise, there are two candidates each for divisions 1, 2, 4 and 5, three candidates for Division 3 and four candidates in Division 6.

If you missed the voting registration deadline of Sept. 15, you can still vote by registering at a local polling station on election day. Contact your municipality for specific location details.
