The Rebels struggled to stay out of the penalty box early in the second period and the Oil Kings made them pay. Just under two minutes into the frame, forward Lukas Sawchyn scored on a five-on-three powerplay.

Edmonton scored another goal with 1:18 left in the middle frame off the stick of defenceman Josh Lee to lead 4-1 heading into the second intermission.

In the third period, the Rebels had a few scoring opportunities including plenty during a four-minute powerplay. However, they were unable to to cut into the Oil Kings lead and Edmonton hung on for the victory.
