Military Family Appreciation Day event to be held in Red Deer Saturday

Sep 17, 2025 | 12:14 PM

The Calgary Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) will host a Military Family Appreciation Day Open House this Saturday.

The free event, which will be held on Sept. 20 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Cormack Armoury, is to recognize the sacrifices and resiliency of military families.

The Calgary MFRC will be joined by the 41 Signal Regiment and 2 Squadron Red Deer, 78 Battery of 20th Field Regiment members, and army reserve recruiters who will be on site with equipment displays and information.

Calgary MRFC says it’s a rare opportunity to learn more about the military presence in Red Deer and the work these units carry out at home and abroad.

“When one person wears the uniform, the whole family serves,” said Barbara Pohl executive director of Calgary MFRC. “Military families make sacrifices of their own, and this event is about honouring them, connecting with the community, and giving everyone a chance to show their appreciation.”

Military Family Appreciation Day is observed across Canada on the third Friday of September every year. The day highlights the important role families play in supporting Canadian Armed Forces members through relocations, deployments, and transitions.

An event in Red Deer last year had approximately 250 attendees, demonstrating strong community support for military families.

This family-friendly community event will feature free food, military equipment displays that are rarely seen up close, face painting, and outdoor games for all ages. There will also be a 50/50 raffle in support of local military family programs
