Central Alberta Breakfast Club to host golf tournament this Friday in benefit of local non-profits

The Central Alberta Breakfast Club is set to host it’s first-ever golf tournament fundraiser in benefit of the Red Deer Food Bank, Red Deer Dream Centre and Bridges Community Living.

The One Swing for Three Causes tournament will take place this Friday, Sept. 19 with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. at Alberta Springs Golf Resort.

“We thought we could put on as an independent committee, a fundraiser for these organizations,” said Myles Peake, volunteer on the organizing committee for the Central Alberta Breakfast Club. “We thought we’d maybe save some people some time instead of going to three golf tournaments, maybe just going to one and help out.”

The club said they are still looking for teams to join the tournament. To do so, people can reach out through the Central Alberta Breakfast Club’s Instagram account or by contacting any of the three organizations involved.

Peake said the club formed about a year ago by six community members that wanted to put on events that would benefit the non-profit organizations in the community.

“We know that times are a little bit tougher than normal so we thought that we could use our expertise and backgrounds in community involvement and fundraising and help raise some funds,” he said, adding they’re always looking for more volunteers. “We came up with the Central Alberta Breakfast Club name from our first event last March. It just kind of stuck.”

So far in the club’s short existence, they’ve held just one event but are looking forward to raising as much money as they can in the golf tournament this Friday that currently has approximately 23 teams registered.

Peake hopes those in attendance use the time to connect and learn more about the organizations in need.

“It’s kind of what we’ve heard over the years throughout the community, is if we could somehow put together an event that supports multiple different organizations, it saves people time and they’re able to donate to multiple causes at the same event,” he added.
