Alberta cabinet members travelling to Australia, Wyoming and Alaska

Sep 16, 2025 | 4:31 PM

Three Alberta cabinet members have packed their bags for international business trips this month.

Searle Turton, minister of children and family services has flown to Sydney, Australia to take in the 5th World Conference of Women’s Shelters, Sept. 12-19.

“Alberta is committed to ensuring families experiencing violence have access to safe and responsive supports when and where they need it,” says Turton. “Participating in this global conference allows us to learn from international leaders and ensure that we continue to lead in our renewed women’s shelter approach.”

Meantime, Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo MLA Tany Yao, also parliamentary secretary for small business and northern development, is headed to Jackson, Wyoming.

That trip runs Sept. 15-20 and is for the purposes of promoting Alberta’s economic priorities at the Council of State Governments West.

“I look forward to attending CSG West to build relationships and find solutions vital to ensuring that our businesses and people have the opportunities they need to thrive,” says Yao.

“For decades, our economy has been closely tied with the U.S., and western states in particular. These connections are worth protecting. Through our participation in CSG West, I will make sure to reinforce that barriers between Alberta and the U.S. prevent us from seizing the incredible opportunities for collaboration in front of us.”

Lastly, MLA Shane Getson, parliamentary secretary for economic corridor development, is going to spend the week in Alaska, Sept. 16-21.

There, Getson will join legislators from 14 energy-producing states, as well as Saskatchewan, to learn about energy issues.

“I’m proud to share Alberta’s story with our American partners. Alberta families and businesses work hard to keep energy flowing, and that benefits people on both sides of the border,” Getson says.

“These meetings are about strengthening those relationships, finding common ground and showing that Alberta can be counted on as a reliable, responsible energy partner.”

Mission expenses will be posted on the government travel and expense disclosure page.
