Sep 14, 2025 | 4:31 PM

The Red Deer Rebels continued their success this weekend beating the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-3 on Sunday afternoon.

At the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre in Westlock, Alta., Rebels forward Beckett Hamilton scored a hat trick to lead the way and goaltender Peyton Shore made 14 saves on 17 shots. Red Deer also had success in special teams scoring two powerplay goals on three opportunities, meanwhile, the penalty kill went five-for-five.

Rebels forward Landon MacSwain opened the scoring nearly a minute and a half into the first period while on the powerplay.

The Oil Kings responded 20 seconds later with a goal from Joe Iginla to tie it. Iginla scored his second of game later in the frame to take the lead heading into the intermission.

Nearly two minutes into the second period, forward Ty Coupland tied the game at two where it remained until the Oil Kings retook the lead with under seven minutes left in the frame off the stick of Dylan Dean.

However, with just under four minutes to go in the second, Hamilton scored his second goal of the weekend to tie the game.

Hamilton struck again midway through the third period to give the Rebels their first lead of the game on the man advantage. He added an empty-net goal late in the period to seal the deal on a 5-3 victory.

Next up, the Rebels will host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. for the home opener at the Centrium followed by a rematch on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Edmonton.
