The Town of Sylvan Lake has received $295,000 from the Alberta Crime Prevention grant, which will go to support programs that help at-risk youth.

The program run until March 31, 2027 and aims to help youth ages 12 to 24 build life skills, resilience, community connections, and self-esteem.

“We know some of our young people are struggling. In recent years, we’ve seen more issues like bullying, skipping school, and crime,” said Alissa McDonald, Director of Wellness and Community Connections, Town of Sylvan Lake. “Many of these challenges come from things young people can’t control, like family stress, limited services, or feeling isolated. With this grant, we can step in earlier and give youth the tools, support, and connections they need to make healthier choices and feel more confident about their future.”

“Our community cares deeply about our young people, and this grant is such exciting news for Sylvan Lake,” said Mayor Megan Hanson, Town of Sylvan Lake. “It gives us the chance to step in early and support youth in meaningful ways—helping them turn challenges into opportunities to grow. I’m excited about the positive impact this program will have, because when we invest in our youth, we’re building a stronger, safer, and more connected Sylvan Lake.”
