Sep 4, 2025 | 4:19 PM

Innisfail RCMP have arrested two men from Red Deer after they allegedly stole nearly 200 pounds worth of copper wire.

On Aug, 28, police responded to a report of fire near the Highway 54 bridge after the Innisfail fire department found two men burning copper wire.

The suspects attempted to flee in a truck once police arrived but were stopped by the RCMP.

Police discovered an estimated 100 pounds of stripped copper wire in the back of the truck during the traffic stop and both men were arrested for stolen property.

However, after a search of the truck, police seized 187 pounds of copper wire and found several break and enter tools.

As a result, a 49-year-old man has been charged for possession of stolen property, unlawful burning of hazardous material, possession of break and entering tools, and failure to comply with release conditions.

A 29-year-old man was also charged for possession of stolen property and unlawful burning of hazardous material.

A judicial interim release hearing was held for both men. One was remanded into custody while the other was released by a Justice of the Peace. Their next court appearance is set for Sept. 10, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
