‘Audacity in the Arts: Reviving Cultural Relevance’ comes to Scott Block Theatre

Sep 3, 2025 | 2:37 PM

The Scott Block Theatre will host, for one night on Sept. 16, an event called ‘Audacity in the Arts: Reviving Cultural Relevance,’ hosted by Alex Sarian.

The Red Deer Arts Council calls it an “essential engagement for central Albertan arts and culture workers and the public.”

Sarian will lead the thought-provoking conversation exploring how the arts and culture sector can transform in times of crisis.

“Drawing from his critically acclaimed book, The Audacity of Relevance, Alex makes the case that the challenges we face today, including declining audiences, shifting philanthropic priorities, and growing social complexities, are not new,” the Arts Council says in a release.

“They are the result of long-standing issues of relevance that the pandemic has brought into sharp focus. Through personal stories from his career and insights from his book, Alex invites us to reimagine our organizations as places brimming with potential for reinvention.”

The event is free to attend, and starts at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6.

Donations are welcome, however, and you can reserve your spot at showpass.com.

This event is put on with support from the Downtown Neighbourhood Alliance and the City of Red Deer.

Alex Sarian will be available after the presentation for further conversation. Audiobook and e-book copies of his book are available through the Red Deer Public Library’s Libby app.
