Speed changes around new Penhold Middle School coming into effect

Penhold is expanding the school zone around the new Penhold Waskasoo Middle School.

Classes start Sept. 2, and motorists should be aware the zone now extends further south, past the middle school, to provide an added layer of safety for students, families, and drivers travelling through the area.

Community peace officers will begin patrolling the area starting day one.

“Penhold Waskasoo Middle School is an exciting addition to our community, and with it comes the responsibility to ensure our students can travel to and from school safely,” said Penhold Mayor Mike Yargeau.

“Expanding the school zone is an important step in protecting children, giving parents’ peace of mind, and reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert. Safety must be a top priority as we welcome students into this new school.”

Penhold school zones are in effect on school days during the following times:

• 08:00 – 09:30
• 11:30 – 13:30
• 15:00 – 16:30

A community open house is being held at the school (1C Waskasoo Avenue) Thursday, Aug. 28, from 4:30-6.
