The two men convicted of manslaughter in connection to the 2022 death of a Ponoka man have been sentenced.

Adam James Cook, 30, and Morgan Maslin, 23, who were each initially charged with second degree murder, received multi-year jail sentences in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench on Aug. 26.

It was on July 8, 2022, at 8:25 p.m., when Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to a report of an altercation on 40 Avenue, east of 56 Street in Wetaskiwin.

When first responders arrived on scene, RCMP said they located a male with life-threatening injuries. Mounties said the victim, identified as Antwon Bull, 19, of Ponoka, succumbed to his injuries later that evening in hospital.

Police said the subsequent investigation resulted in the Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit originally charging two males with one count each of second degree murder.

Cook was sentenced to six years in jail, or 2,190 days. With 1.5x credit for time served, he has 485 days remaining.

Maslin was sentenced to seven years imprisonment, or 2,555 days. With 1.5x credit for time served, he has 1,363 days remaining.

Both men were given a firearms prohibition.
