Labour Day BBQ and info fair happening in Red Deer Sept. 1

The Red Deer & District Labour Council is hosting its annual Labour Day community BBQ, Sept. 1 in Capstone.

The event goes down 11-2 at Canada 150 Square, and the best part is it’s free.

Financial support from the Labour Council along with donations from unions and local businesses, and this year funding from the Capstone Activation Fund, help to make this a no-cost event for attendees.

“It takes many people to make the BBQ a success and we are grateful for all the help we get,” says long-time Labour Council Secretary-Treasurer Karen Reay.

The organization notes that the BBQ attracts people from all walks of life, but this year they anticipate seeing more community members who are struggling.

That’s partially why this year the BBQ will feature, for the first time, an information fair.

“We have something for everyone,” says Labour Council President Kyle Johnston.

“We also take the opportunity at the BBQ to provide information on the Labour Council and its activities, and with the addition of the Information Fair, we are also able to focus on services of the wider Red Deer community as well as the local Capstone area. We hope to make this an ongoing part of our annual Labour Day BBQs.”
