Fire restriction in effect for County of Stettler

Aug 27, 2025 | 3:05 PM

The County of Stettler has implemented a fire restriction as of 9 a.m. on Aug. 27.

They upgraded it to a fire restriction from the fire advisory issued July 23 because of the extended heat conditions and the lack of forecast precipitation in the upcoming weeks.

At this time, a number of limitations have been put in place for the duration of the fire restriction, which will remain in effect until further notice.

These limitations include that no new fire permits will be issued during the fire restriction. In addition, essential burning in burning barrels made out of non-combustible material with a tight-fitting metal mesh screen will be allowed.

Backyard fire pits and safe wood campfires will also be allowed as long as its contained by non-combustible material with a metal mesh screen with openings no larger than 13 mm.

However, the fire restriction does not apply to fires that are contained within cooking and heating appliances fueled by propane, natural gas or wood pellets.

The restriction also does not apply to fires contained within industrial facilities for operational purposes; approved gas/propane fueled fire pits/stoves/barbecues, and catalytic or infrared-style heaters

The county will update the public on any changes to the restriction.
