Team Alberta served up a strong finish at the 2025 Canada Summer Games on Sunday.

The provincial squadron closed out competition in St. John’s, Newfoundland with five additional medals, ending with 86 — 25 fewer than in Niagara three years ago.

Final day medals included the men’s volleyball team capturing gold in a 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-18) romp over Team Manitoba.

“Our team really came together. A 3-0 victory in the finals is amazing. I’m honestly so proud of these guys,” said Red Deer’s Tyson DeZutter, an outside for the men’s volleyball team.

“Everyone played out of their minds today and it’s such a good feeling. We continued to trend upwards this whole tournament and we saved our best game for last — that’s all you can ask for.”

Meantime, Alberta’s women’s baseball team earned a silver in the sport’s debut at the Canada Summer Games, falling 8-5 in the final against Ontario. That’s despite dominating the tournament, in which they outscored their opponents 66-26.

The group included Stettler’s Hadley Prehn, as well as Taylor Elines of Big Valley, and Tessa Klassen of Red Deer.

Women’s volleyball also earned silver, and also lost to Ontario in the final, three sets to one.

The men’s box lacrosse team earned bronze, toppling Nova Scotia 6-5. That team included Innisfail’s Luc Catudal and Red Deer’s Kian Siemens,

Plus, the women’s soccer team also won bronze, beating Nova Scotia on penalty kicks following a 0-0 draw through full-time.
