Red Deer Rebels announce training camp schedule including new Mikel McIver Cup

The Red Deer Rebels have announced the dates of their upcoming training camp as well as the addition of the Mikel McIver Cup.

This year, Red Deer Rebels players, both rookies and returning players, will compete for the inaugural Mikel McIver Cup in honour of the long-time, legendary Rebels dressing room attendant who is entering his 25th season with the team.

The players will check in for training camp on Wednesday, Aug. 27 with on-ice sessions beginning on Thursday at 8 a.m., which will continue through Friday at the Centrium.

The Mikel McIver Cup will take place on Saturday, Aug. 30 where four teams will battle for the championship trophy filled with McIver’s favourite treat, Mars Bars.

Following the tournament, there will be a scrimmage on Monday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. followed by the annual Black and White game on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Centrium. Admission into the game is a donation to the Red Deer Food Bank.

The Rebels will play four preseason games following the conclusion of training camp. Two will take place at the Centrium on Saturday, Sept. 6 vs. Calgary and Friday, Sept. 12 vs. Lethbridge. Both are set for 7 p.m.

The Western Hockey League regular season will begin on Friday, Sept. 19 when the Rebels welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings to the Centrium at 7 p.m.

Season tickets for 2025-26 are still available and single game tickets will go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 27.
