Rocky Mountain House’s Saylar May secured the Alberta Golf Girls’ U17 Championship after a convincing victory at Alberta Springs Golf Resort on Wednesday.

Despite a double bogey on the final hole at the course near Red Deer, May, from Pine Hills Golf Club, finished the final round one under-par 71 in an 11-stroke victory for the tournament.

She was the only competitor on the girls’ side to finish under par.

May adds the U17 crown to the U19 Championship she won in similarly commanding fashion at Water Valley earlier this summer.

In addition, Red Deer’s Raylee Denton finished in seventh place after shooting 17 over-par over the three-day tournament.

A clutch birdie by Strang on the par five 18th hole secured the win.

Meantime, Red Deer’s Bennett Love shot three under-par to finish in seventh place. Fellow Red Deerians Berkley Lidgren (27 over-par) and Edwin Park (30 over-par) also competed in the championship.
