Eckville to host inaugural community block party, Aug. 21

Aug 16, 2025 | 8:00 AM

Residents of Eckville and area are invited to take part in the town’s first-ever block party on Thursday, Aug. 21, in what organizers hope will become an annual end-of-summer celebration.

The Eckville Block Party, running from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. outside the arena, features a full evening of family-friendly activities and music says Jodi Oslund, recreation director with the Eckville Recreation Board.

“We’re putting on our first — and hopefully annual — block party,” said Oslund.

The outdoor event will feature a concert by local artist Alicia Aichelle, along with a youth showcase where young performers can take the stage between sets. Oslund said the showcase is a long-standing idea the board is excited to bring to life.

The street market will include booths from numerous community organizations sharing details about their programs for the upcoming fall and winter seasons. That includes groups like Phoenix Dance, Eckville Figure Skating Club, and the Eckville Library.

Also planned are games and activities such as lawn games and carnival-style booths to a bouncy castle, a kids’ bike course with Amber Giroux, and a dunk tank hosted by the fire department. The curling rink will be open for activities and refreshments, including a cash bar.

The evening will also include a free BBQ provided by Torrent Fluid Solutions, with support from more than a dozen local sponsors.

“We’ve had just a tremendous amount of community support,” said Oslund. “For a small town, we have a lot of organizations doing great work, and this event is a great way to bring everyone together.”

Anyone interested in taking part in the information fair or street market can still sign up. Oslund said vendor spaces are free — participants just need to bring their own setup. Youth performers interested in the showcase are also encouraged to reach out.
